Our Story

🗺️ Map of Mental Decolonization

Stations of the journey: concepts, tools, community, and freedom
— 2026: From Ikusnet to Parallel Polis, from Blender to Dark Wallet. A journey through the prehistory of software freedom, cypherpunk resistance, and mental decolonization.
— Ikusnet and the seed of horizontal organization. A small tech company in the Basque Country plants the seed of what would later be called DAOs: collaboration over competition, trust over hierarchy.
— Crystal Space: the open 3D engine. The first open-source 3D engine dreams of a free metaverse, years before the word existed.
— Blender’s community rescue. The community raises 100,000 euros to liberate Blender. The first great crowdfunding success in free software.
— Metaversos libres: Croquet, Interverse. Before Meta, there were open virtual worlds. A dream that capitalism buried, but never died.
— The Seed: Decentralized Origins. “Money as a technology of freedom.” The birth of Bitcoin and the possibility of a financial system without intermediaries. The ideological seed that would later inspire the search for autonomy, decentralization, and resistance to centralized control.
— Calafou: the post-capitalist laboratory. An abandoned textile colony becomes the physical meeting point for hackers, anticapitalists, and crypto-developers.
— libbitcoin and the first Bitcoin alternative. Amir Taaki and Patrick Strateman build the first full Bitcoin implementation, independent from the original client.
— Bitcoin Barcelona: the small community attracts global gurus. Andreas Antonopoulos, Amir Taaki and others make Barcelona a mandatory stop in the international Bitcoin circuit.
— Dark Wallet, FairCoin and Parallel Polis. The year of radical experimentation: anonymous wallets, cooperative cryptocurrencies, and a cryptoanarchist institute in Prague.
— Pre-Foundations: Summer Camp. “Building post-capitalist tools in the Serbian wilderness.” A month-long gathering in a mountain cabin near Sremski Karlovci. Activists, hackers, and philosophers came together to discuss post-capitalist economics, and how to scale horizontal organization without losing the plot. A crucial precursor to the ideas that would later shape Undervan.
— First Steps: Activism in Action. “Technology becomes political when used to liberate.” Undervan begins to act in the physical world. The Sant’Imier hackathon brings together builders working on distributed backends, data sovereignty, and fair circular economies. Events, community building, and technology as a tool for activism.
— The Conceptual Explosion: Mental Decolonization. “Decolonizing the mind is the first act of freedom.” The most prolific year. Undervan explores multiple fronts: critique of power, philosophy of freedom, privacy and resistance, art and expression, community and journey. Self-isolation at Chipiona captures the resilience during lockdown. Amir Taaki brings strategic economic coordination into the map. Mental decolonization becomes the central axis.
— Technical Consolidation: Tools for Autonomy. “Thinking differently is not enough. You have to build tools.” Undervan systematizes its approach. Concrete tools (NFTs, Bitcoin, open-source methodology), ethical foundations (Natural Law), and personal resilience (body-mind integration). From criticism to construction.
— Community in Motion: The Power of Coliving. “No one is free alone. Freedom is a collective act.” Undervan expands through community. Coliving and strategic alliances (Vagabonds) become the organizational model. Collective decision-making and the digital nomad lifestyle as a path to freedom.
— Strategic Retreat: Privacy & Infrastructure. “Freedom needs infrastructure.” A more intimate and technical year. Undervan connects with builder networks to focus on privacy infrastructure. Less divulgation, more deep technical construction.
— Radical Privacy: The Final Tool. “Without privacy, there is no freedom.” A mono-thematic but profound year. Cryptography as a tool for liberation. Privacy becomes the technical and ethical pillar of the project.
— Free Creativity & Strategic Renewal. “Freedom is also about playing — and about strategy.” Joymixa brings playful, solar-powered creativity. Meanwhile, the Amir Taaki article is revised and updated, bridging 2020’s strategic economics with the present moment. Liberation is joyful, coordinated, and forward-looking.
— The Open Future. “The map still has unexplored territories.” El Río opens its doors in Tenerife: a sovereign space where sun, wind and Bitcoin cultivate freedom. A physical manifestation of the journey.
